Volk, Meierhenry & Folkerts
Dave Volk, Mark Meierhenry and Jason Folkerts are not a law firm, but the author’s and illustrator of a new children’s book being published by theSouth Dakota Historical Society Press.
“The Mystery of the Round Rocks” is a book for primary grade school children and also suitable for reading to pre schoolers. The book tells the story of the early geologic history of South Dakota and the Great Plains.
Dave Volk and Mark Meierhenry are no strangers to South Dakota. Dave served as South Dakota State Treasurer for 17 years and another 8 years as Secretary of Commerce. Upon the death of School and Lands Commissioner Julian Cheney, Dave served as both Treasurer and Land Commissioner for about two years. Volk also served in the Congressional Offices of Bill Janklow and Ben Reifel. He was Janklow’s State Director, and managed Reifel’s Aberdeen office while a student at Northern State College.
This is Dave Volk’s second outing as an author and a follow up to his very readable “Draftee – A Highschool Teacher Goes To War.”
Mark Meierhenry, a Sioux Falls attorney, served as South Dakota Attorney General from 1979 until 1987. Meierhenry is one of brightest guys in South Dakota and has the extrordinary abiltiy to always see the Big Picture. Meierhenry’s wife is Supreme Court Justice Judith Meierhenry –clearly Mark’s biggest accomplishment.
“The Mystery of the Round Rocks” is illustrated by Jason Folkerts. Jason is well known in the South Dakota blogosphere and his political cartoons are often seen in the “Argus Leader” and “R C Journal”. Jason blogs at http://jasonfolkerts.blogspot.com/index.html
I posted previously, The Times They Are A Changin on “Draftee”
“Draftee” is a good book and very readable. Volk is a good story teller. Given Mierhenry’s cleverness and excellent writing skill (I think he was an English major at USD – before he obtained his Law Degree) and Volk’s story telling skill, this should be a good book to pick up for your children or grandchildren. Folkerts doing the illustration is a bonus.
