Billion Get Smart And Stop

Democrat Governor candidate Jack Billion sure is busy campaigning and trying to get his message out but he is not being effective.

Chasing the Governor around the State and trying to steal his press is not the way to go. South Dakotans are way too respectful of their Governor for what is transparently cheap political theatrics. Jack is a class guy – these tactics are unbecoming and should stop.

Candidate Billion showed up at South Dakota’s Melon Capitol on Tuesday night at the Governor’s education meeting. This attempt to get press and to upstage Governor Rounds was reported by emerging South Dakota political reporter Seth Tupper in yesterday’s Daily Republic and now (as the Billion campaign planned) being picked up by the Associated Press.

Some Free Advice (and you know what they say about being worth the price) to the Billion Campaign – Besides all the trappings that you are attempting to employ with journals, blogs and the like, the fact is you need paid media and lots of it to get out your message. That takes cash perhaps not a Billion but 3 or 4 million and without it your campaign will not be competitive. Before you poorboy such an idea saying it cannot be raised consider:

Instead of having so many coffees with Jack – why not take a week and have those champagne and orange juice drinks with the national pro-choice community and Planned Parenthood crowd. Go to Miami, Hollywood, San Francisco, Big Apple, DC and a few other “choice” spots and tell them you are their man to beat that “Anti-Abortion Governor” in South Dakota who is causing all their problems. You will raise handbags of cash. Then you can get out your message.

PS – you will be criticized for taking outside South Dakota money (that most campaigns take) but don’t worry too much about it. That too is theatrics and voters really don’t usually care as long as they don’t have to pay. The television stations by the way will love you even more.

When Ron Volesky got out of the race the Democrats did not have a chance. Jack Billion has given this race a heartbeat. People do not rate the Democrat chances much better today than when Volesky quit but there is at least discussion that it “could” happen. That is an improvement.

Get Smart – Run Your Own Race, stop going Round and Rounds chasing someone else.

Joel:

Thanks for the free advice.

All Jack did was politely sit and listen to Gov. Rounds' presentation to the audience. No theatrics. No attention to himself (except when Gov. Rounds asked for the veterans in the room to stand). Just listening and taking notes. Gov. Rounds even introduced Jack from the floor, which was very polite and very classy. No one in the audience expressed any displeasure to Jack or me or anyone else that he was there. In fact, a number of people came up to him afterward and had nice conversations. It was all very civil on both Jack and Mike's sides. They acted like adults.

I think what you are upset about is that Jack got the headlines in Forestburg in the Mitchell paper and Mike did not.

What you propose that we do in the Billion campaign is to do what Democrats have always done the past thirty years when running for governor. Then lose.

If Gov. Rounds wants to show up at our events, that's fine with us. He knows how to behave in public as well. If it provides additional dialogue to the press and public, then the public is better served this election.

I agree. Jack Billion is a classy guy. And he will continue to be classy. And not your typical typical candidate. I think it's all the coffee he drinks.

Oh, and I think you owe a photo credit to Billion for Governor, http://billionforgovernor.com. That's a photo I took of Jack and Seth in Forestburg.

Maybe if Governor Rounds would actually publicly come out with his agenda for his next term instead of crowing over his so-called previous accomplishments Dr Billion wouldn't have to attend these functions in an attempt to find out exactly what Rounds plans on doing for South Dakota in a possible second term.
